Storm Scoring for all abilities

Melbourne Storm players, coaches and staff recognised International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) today with the Score Storm all abilities team at Gosch's Paddock.

Storm CEO, Justin Rodski, said the club was proud to be supporting the Score Storm program.

“We hope that by giving the Score Storm program a chance to train on Gosch’s Paddock it encourages more people to get involved and provides great inspiration for our players, coaches and staff,” Rodski said.

“It is important that everyone who wants the chance to play rugby league be given that opportunity, whether socially or at the elite level and the Score Storm program does just that."

Score Storm Program Coordinator, Amelia Ansell, said the players and their families were excited to be training in front of their Storm heroes.

“It’s so exciting to have the two Storm teams come together this weekend,” Ansell said.

“Being able to train on Gosch’s Paddock in front of the Storm players is not only a great experience for our players, but a fantastic opportunity for the first-grade boys to see how we train.

“Having the support of Storm really does give us the chance to promote the fact that everyone has an opportunity to play rugby league, regardless of the barriers that might be in place.

“Score Storm is all about participants coming together to develop their rugby league skills on the field and build new social connections in a fun safe environment.” Ansell said.

Score Storm originally started in 2020 although, like most sport, has been impacted by COVID restrictions in recent years.

Score Storm train weekly in line with school terms and will play on weekends as part of the local NRL Victoria competitions. Score Storm will also have the opportunity to play against other NRL Score teams, such as Score Dragons and Score Raiders as potential curtain raisers for NRL games.

IDPwD aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability, as well as celebrate their contributions and achievements.
