Loiero sets sights on solid 2023

Following a career-best season in 2022, Trent Loiero has started his 2023 pre-season training with a bang.

Coming out on top in the group's first yo-yo test of the pre-season gave the forward immediate bragging rights as one to watch for the year ahead. Loiero knows there is a long road ahead however with matches not beginning for a few months.

"We don't start till March, so there's a lot of a lot of work to do yet, but it's good to have a good start.” Loiero admitted.

Continuing his training throughout the break is already showing dividends for the youngster who played his junior football with the Kawana Dolphins.

“I was back up on the Sunny Coast so I did a bit of training with my good mates back there who all played for the [Sunshine Coast] Falcons,” the second-rower shared.

Loiero: "There's a lot of work to do"

“We got it amongst it and it was good to do a bit of training with them considering I played all my junior footy with them.

“But it's good to get back to Melbourne now and get amongst all the boys.”

Not the only forward to return to training, the 21-year-old was joined by new recruits Joe Chan and Elise Katoa both also looking to make an early impression in their first pre-season in Melbourne.

“They’re a couple big boys and they did very well on the yo-yo,” Loiero said.

“They were beside me and I think they both got very, very high scores.

“Both fit boys and big boys and very skilful too in all the drills we were doing out there so, looking forward to seeing them play.”
