Storm sign up backline quintet

Five members of Melbourne Storm’s 2022 backline have received contract extensions, highlighted by the elevation of two players to the club’s NRL top 30 squad.

Marion Seve, who has started in the No.3 jersey for Storm in 11 games this season, has been promoted from the development list to the top 30 squad for the next two seasons.

Seve made his NRL debut in 2019 and has now tallied 32 NRL games, scoring nine tries, as well as two appearances for Samoa.

Joining the top 30 squad for the first time on a one-year deal in 2023 will be winger/centre Grant Anderson, who has played six NRL matches for Storm this year.

Originally from Newcastle, Anderson came to Storm from the Sunshine Coast Falcons on a train and trial contract and enjoyed a memorable debut in round 14 when he scored two tries in a win against the Sydney Roosters at the SCG.

Wingers George Jennings and Dean Ieremia and five-eighth/halfback Jayden Nikorima have extended their Storm contracts for another season.

Jennings made a big impression in his first year in Melbourne, playing 18 games in the run to the preliminary final in 2021.

He formed a great combination with fellow recruit Reimis Smith, crossing for a career-high 11 tries, including three doubles.

Now with 54 NRL games on his record, Jennings, unfortunately, had his 2022 campaign curtailed by a torn ACL suffered in the round one victory against Wests Tigers and has been working hard on his rehabilitation to get ready for the 2023 pre-season.

Ieremia, a Sunbury Tigers junior who made his way through to the NRL via Storm’s development pathway, has played 21 NRL matches across the past two seasons and was named the club’s Rookie of the Year in 2021.

Nikorima ended a six-year absence from the NRL when he made his debut for Storm against Manly in Round 16 and has enjoyed a fine season with the Brisbane Tigers in the Hostplus Cup in Queensland.
