Brandon Smith returns to the Melbourne Storm on-field starting line-up for Saturday night's clash with the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Nelson Asofa-Solomona was ruled out of the interstate match after scans showed the prop sustained a medial ligament injury against the Penrith Panthers in Magic Round. Smith will step into the No. 10 jersey after being named on the interchange in recent games.

Jahrome Hughes has also been named to return to Craig Bellamy's starting 17 after missing out on Magic Round due to a calf injury. Cooper Johns will revert back to the bench after stepping in as halfback for the first time this season.

Alongside Johns, new recruit Alec MacDonald will return to the bench following a successful stint in the purple jersey in the opening six rounds of the 2022 season. As a development list player, MacDonald is now eligible for selection without exemption from Round 11 onwards.

Dean Ieremia will also remain on the interchange.

Kick-off is at 5.45pm.
