Rd.1 Feeder Wrap-up

Storm’s Hostplus Cup feeder teams had winning starts to their 2022 campaigns at the weekend – both triumphing away from home with Melbourne players prominent on the scoresheet.

Will Warbrick scored his first try for Sunshine Coast Falcons – and his first in rugby league since his junior days - in their 24-4 win against Redcliffe at Moreton Daily Stadium.

Storm player #211 Tyson Smoothy was outstanding for the Falcons, scoring a try, kicking four goals and racking up a game-high 50 tackles in an 80-minute performance.

At Tweed Heads, Brisbane Tigers came from behind to score a 20-16 victory against the Seagulls.

Jayden Nikorima picked off a 37th minute intercept and raced away for a 90-metre try in his debut for the Tigers, who also had fellow Storm players Nick Meaney and Bronson Garlick make their first Hostplus Cup appearances.

Unfortunately, Garlick suffered a knee injury which is expected to sideline him for up to two months.

This weekend, the Tigers play Souths Logan Magpies and the Falcons are away to Tweed.

All matches can be view on qplus.tv.

Tigers forward Will Samuel, who spent the pre-season in Melbourne and played in the trial against the Warriors, will this week join Storm on a one month train and trial contract.
