Stats that Matter: Preliminary Final

Saturday's heartbreaking preliminary final loss to the Panthers was a match we'd rather forget, but the stats are worth a look if only to understand what went wrong after a stunning season of footy.

Storm completed just 34 of 49 sets for a completion rate of 69% (well below our season average of 78%) despite more time in possession (54%).

Jahrome Hughes was our best, carving up 150 run metres in the first half for 199 total and making a try-saving tackle on Brian To'o.

Kenny Bromwich made the most tackles for Melbourne (43) and ran hard all game, powering to 81 metres in 11 carries.

Ryan Papenhuyzen scored our only try, giving us some hope with 18 minutes left on the clock.
