Storm rookie extends contract

Melbourne Storm rookie Dean Ieremia’s year to remember has continued with the young winger extending his contract with the reigning NRL premiers until the end of the 2022 season.

A junior from the Sunbury Tigers club who play in the NRL Victoria competition, Ieremia made his NRL debut for Storm in the round eight victory against Cronulla this season, becoming the fourth local to play for Storm.

He has now played four NRL matches and scored his first career try against the Dragons in the NRL’s Magic Round.

The 19-year-old was promoted to Storm’s full-time squad in March after a strong pre-season capped by a standout performance in the trial win against Newcastle in Albury.

Ieremia has also been impressive for Brisbane Tigers in the Intrust Super Cup in Queensland this season, scoring six tries in five games, including a hat-trick against defending premiers Burleigh Bears.

Storm General Manager – Football Frank Ponissi said the extended contract was a reward for Ieremia’s continuing hard work on improving his game.

"We’ve been really pleased with the progress Dean has been making," Ponissi said.

"He’s starting to fully realise the potential that was identified several years ago as he started progressing through the NRL Victoria and Melbourne Storm systems.

He’s a great role model for what young Victorian juniors can achieve in rugby league.

Ieremia will be joined by another Victorian junior at the Storm in 2022.

Sua Fa’alogo, from the Northern Thunder juniors, has signed a three-year contract with Melbourne Storm from 2022 until the end of the 2024 season.

The 18-year-old currently plays at fullback for the Victorian Thunderbolts under-21 squad.
