We take a look back at significant moments in the club's history during this week in years gone by.

June 9

1999: Blues fullback Robbie Ross scores the fastest try in State of Origin history (42 seconds) as NSW beats Queensland 12-8 in front of a record Origin crowd of 88,336.

2008: Stand-in Melbourne coach Stephen Kearney says fans are being short-changed by the unavailability of State of Origin talent after a Storm team missing 10 players is beaten 18-0 by a Gold Coast team who were without three of their stars.

2013: Melbourne Storm players help team-mate Cameron Smith celebrate his 250th game in style when they hand Cronulla a 38-6 caning at AAMI Park.

2018: Former Roosters, Panthers and Raiders winger Sandor Earl makes a successful comeback to the game after a four-year drug suspension and ACL injury, playing for Sunshine Coast Falcons against Souths Logan in Queensland’s Intrust Super Cup.

June 10

2007: A Melbourne side missing six State of Origin representatives down the Warriors 4-2 at Mt Smart Stadium in the lowest-scoring game in 14 years.

June 11

2016: Melbourne climb to the top of the competition ladder with a 46-0 drubbing of the Sydney Roosters. It is a record defeat for the Roosters at Allianz Stadium.

June 12

1997: Neither ARL or Super League officials are able to give a guarantee that they will establish a team in Melbourne in 1998

2010: Melbourne rookie Gareth Widdop makes his debut for England after only two senior appearances in the NRL.

2017: Storm prop Tim Glasby is named as one of seven changes to Queensland’s team for State of Origin II.

June 13

2009: A crowd of 15,197 watches Melbourne down Souths 28-22 at Perth’s Members Equity Stadium. It is the first NRL game played in Western Australia since 2005.

2011: Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy claims Cameron Smith has surpassed Steve Walters as the best hooker he has seen.

2017: Storm sign Manly veteran Nate Myles for the remainder of the 2017 season.

June 14

2003: Penrith’s eight-match winning streak comes to an end when Melbourne inflict a 32-12 defeat at Penrith Football Stadium.

2006: Melbourne sign Newcastle winger Anthony Quinn for three seasons.

2012: Queensland and Melbourne fullback Billy Slater is ruled out for up to six weeks after scans reveal a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
