Under new head coach Des Hasler the Bulldogs had clinched their first minor premiership since 1994 and secured a place in their first Grand Final in 18 years.

Melbourne would play their fifth decider in seven seasons.

A premiership had seemed a pipe dream for Storm when they slumped to a five-game losing streak between rounds 16 and 21 but Craig Bellamy had rallied his side, steering the club back on the road to the holy grail once again.
