At the beginning of the year the pending retirement of Billy Slater would have left Storm fans uncertain about the future of the fullback position. That was until Jahrome Hughes put them at ease.

The 24-year-old came into the side in Round 12 following an injury to Slater and helped propel the side onto an eight-game winning streak.

Hughes performed so well at fullback that when Slater made his return to the side in Round 16 Craig Bellamy refused to drop him, instead shifting the versatile playmaker to halfback.

A knee injury cruelled the rising star of a finals appearance but his 11 games this year have now given Storm fans every reason to be full of optimism for the future.
