A season that started with so much promise ended in such cruel fashion.
Welch played eight of the first nine games for Melbourne before an ACL injury against the Dragons ended his season in Round 9.
Prior to that, he appeared set for a big year as he was averaging more metres and more tackles per game than in 2016 when he was part of Storm’s Grand Final team.
From day one Welch had thrown everything into his rehabilitation and by the time the end of the season rolled around Welch was already running.
Still only 23 years of age, there is a long career ahead of this young in the purple jersey and we know he will be hell bent on making up for lost time next year.
