Move over Sydney, Melbourne fans are set to take centre stage this weekend.

Tickets for the Qualifying final between Storm and the Eels have been selling fast with a crowd of more than 21,000 tipped for Saturday’s blockbuster.

This has led to suggestions by Sydney newspapers that the crowd at AAMI Park could exceed those of any of the three games in Sydney this weekend.

Melburnians have certainly answered the call to #BringTheThunder this finals campaign.

Saturday will also serve as the chance to witness history with Cameron Smith to break the NRL games record when he runs out in a purple jersey for the 356th time in his career.

“The indications are it might go beyond 21,000 which is fantastic,” Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said.

NRL chief commercial officer Andrew Abdo heaped praise on the Melbourne fans for their show of support.

“The response from the Melbourne public has been fantastic and with Cameron Smith playing his record-breaking 356th match, it should be a very special occasion.”
