When your backup kicker holds the record for most goals kicked in NRL history you know you are in safe hands.

With Johnathan Thurston absent through injury, Queensland has turned to Cameron Smith to assume the goal kicking duties.

It is an obvious choice, considering the Storm skipper surpassed Jason Taylor earlier this year for most goals kicked in NRL history.

“It’s been my job at the Storm for the best part of 10 years. I’m accustomed to it,” Smith said.

“I just hope the boys can get over the white line a few times so I won’t have to worry about kicking after the bell.

“Johnno is the best goal kicker we’ve seen in a long time. Hopefully when he gets into camp, he can sprinkle some of the magic.”

Queensland will take on NSW in the Origin decider this Wednesday night.
