Jahrome Hughes put in a best on ground performance to steer the Falcons to a 12-8 win over Wynnum-Manly Seagulls.

In a tough, hard fought game, Sunshine Coast scored on either side of half-time which ultimately gave them enough breathing space for the narrow win.

Hughes was named at fullback but was an everywhere man, scoring a try with seconds left in first half before providing the assist for Justin Olam’s long-range effort in the 51st minute.

“He is a very special player Jahrome, I always thought he was in the top couple of players in the comp,” Falcons coach Craig Ingebrigtsen.

“He was the difference between the two teams on the weekend. I am really happy he is playing for us, he’s doing a really good job.

“Hopefully he can get fitter and force his way into the NRL side somewhere down the track.”

Sunshine Coast Falcons 12 (Jahrome Hughes, Justin Olam tries; Guy Hamilton 2 goals) def Wynnum Manly Seagulls 8 (Peter Gubb, Benaiah Bowie tries) at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Be there for the Grand Final Replay at AAMI Park. Storm host the Sharks, Sunday 9 April.
