Storm duo commit to the future
Melbourne Storm have today announced their latest re-signings with Kenny Bromwich and Joe Stimson committing to the Club.
Bromwich will remain in Melbourne for an additional three years while Stimson has signed a two-year deal.
Both players are products of the Club’s development system having progressed through Storm’s Under-20s program before earning their place in the NRL squad.
Their commitment follows that of Kenny’s older brother Jesse who last week signed for a further three years.
The re-signing of Kenny Bromwich comes after an outstanding breakout season for the emerging forward.
The 25-year-old played every game in 2016, becoming a vital cog in Craig Bellamy’s side playing through the ruck and on the edge. Bromwich also earned an international debut when he received a call-up to represent New Zealand in last year’s Trans-Tasman test.
He has started this season strongly, playing in the second row for the opening two weeks in a position made vacant by the off-season departure of Kevin Proctor.
Stimson made his NRL debut last Friday night against the Warriors, becoming the 179th player to play for Melbourne Storm and also the third player hailing from NSW town Temora to pull on the purple jersey.
That debut was just-reward for the 21-year-old who was last season named Storm’s inaugural Feeder Player of the Year after a standout season for feeder club Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Queensland Cup.
Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said the Club was delighted to retain both players.
“Kenny and Joe are important players for the Melbourne Storm moving forward,” Ponissi said.
“Kenny is an emerging leader at our Club and the past 12 months have proven how integral he is to this team.
“It was exciting for everyone at the Club to see Joe make his debut on Friday night, he is a terrific young man and it’s been pleasing to see his development through our system from the Thunderbolts to first-grade.
“To have both players commit to staying with us should give everyone associated with our Club great confidence about where we are placed for the future.
“We look forward to seeing them continue to develop their game and pushing themselves to take the next step in their careers.”
