The race to 2,000 points is on!

Storm skipper Cameron Smith and Cowboys captain Johnathan Thurston are currently locked in a race to reach 2,000 premiership points.

Only four other players have reached the milestone in the history of the game; Hazem El Masri (2,418), Andrew Johns (2,176), Jason Taylor (2,107) and Daryl Halligan (2,034).

Be there for our first home game of 2017 at AAMI Park against the Broncos in Round 3!

Smith will get a two-hour head start on his Queensland teammate with Storm to play the Warriors at 6pm (Melb time).

The Cowboys will then take on the Broncos in the second game of the Friday night double header.

Thurston is currently sitting on 1,999 career points while Smith sits just two behind him.

Should the Storm hooker join the illustrious club, he will become the first forward in NRL history to do so.

Points record tally:
1. Hazem El Masri (2,418)
2. Andrew Johns (2,176)
3. Jason Taylor (2,107)
4. Daryl Halligan (2,034)
5. Johnathan Thurston (1,999)
6. Cameron Smith (1,997)
