Queensland champion Johnathan Thurston believes Cameron Smith ‘has to be’ a rugby league immortal once his career finishes.
The Maroons and Cowboys maestro yesterday told The Courier Mail his representative teammate deserved to be bestowed rugby league’s highest honour.
“Smithy has to be (an immortal). His record speaks for itself. He has changed how dummy-halves play the game,” Thurston said.
“There’s no doubt Smithy and Locky are the best two players I have played alongside.
“He has always been a freak Smithy.
“He has always had time with the football. He has always outsmarted people and teams. He would be my next pick.”
Darren Lockyer is set to be the ninth immortal later this year.
