Easts Tigers were unlucky to be pipped at the post in their Round 1 clash against the Tweed Heads Seagulls on Sunday, going down 28-24.

The Tigers took an 18-10 lead into the sheds at half-time but could not hold on against the fast-finishing hosts who scored the match-winning try with two minutes remaining.

The Seagulls opened the scoring through Blake Anderson before the Tigers hit back with three tries in 15 minutes.

Their second came courtesy of a Francis Tualau assist to send Jake Foster through under the posts.

After a promising first half Easts Tigers extended their lead to 14 points just one minute after the restart.

However they could not maintain the pressure as Seagulls Leva Li and Shaun Carney cut the deficit to two points before fullback Shannon Walker snatched the win in the 78th minute.

This weekend the Tigers take on fellow Storm feeder team the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Suzuki Stadium this Saturday at 5pm.
