Former Melbourne Storm Assistant Coach Kevin Walters has today been unveiled as Queensland Maroons Coach until the end of 2018.

Taking over from Mal Meninga who will begin life as Kangaroos Coach next year, Walters has been charged with the task of helping lead Queensland as they look to secure back to back Origin series victories after regaining the title in 2015.

An iconic Queenslander, Walters played 20 games for his state over 10 seasons and in recent years has held the position as Meinga’s assistant.

The 48-year old experienced plenty of success during his time in Melbourne. Craig Bellamy’s Assistant Coach from 2011 to 2013, Walters played an important coaching role for Storm sides who won the Minor Premiership (2011), NRL Premiership (2012) and World Club Championship (2013).
