Melbourne Storm and Cancer Council Victoria hosted Relay For Life’s Candlelight Ceremony at AAMI Park in Round 25, with the initiative proving to be a great success.

Relay For Life participants joined forces with 15,045 Melbourne Storm members, fans and supporters to shine a light of hope in the fight against cancer.

The bright lights at AAMI Park were darkened as candlebags were lit up in the middle of the pitch, acknowledging the past, present and future of a cancer-free world.

Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust donated $1 from every ticket sold on the night to Cancer Council Victoria, totalling in a donation of $6151.

In addition to this, there was a tin raffle at half time as well as relay ticket sales, which raised the grand total donation to $8488. The accumulated funds will assist Cancer Council Victoria’s work in research, prevention and support.

Thank you to all of our members and supporters for getting behind this initiative and supporting Cancer Council Victoria and the Relay For Life Candlelight Ceremony.

The highest ticket seller for Relay For Life, Kate Gale experienced Storm’s 14-6 win over the North Queensland Cowboys from a corporate box.

“The ceremony was great, beautiful and for myself, a survivor, very moving,” added Gale.

“The icing on the cake was winning the corporate box and being able to share that with my family and friends!”
