Senior forward Ryan Hinchcliffe says Melbourne need to go to work quickly in order to rectify last round's disappointing performance against the Knights.

Storm suffered a 20-6 loss to Newcaslte on Monday night, in doing so missing the chance to move into the NRL's top four.

"There's definitely some things for us to look at," Hinchcliffe said.

"We haven't got much time to do it but we need to do it and get it done this weekend.

"The main thing was probably our defence, they seemed to roll through the middle of our field pretty easily."

Hinchcliffe explained the playing group, while disappointed, knew there was no time to dwell on the loss with the focus already shifting towards another big game at AAMI Park against the Cowboys on Saturday night.

"It was a huge blow, it was a massive game for us," Hinchcliffe said.

"I know everyone is really disappointed but there is one thing, we don't have too long to dust ourselves off. We're playing the Cowboys down here who are going really well and we need to win.

"We need to make sure we have a really good day at training today, learn from what happened on the weekend and go out and play well."
