Dave Donaghy says he is excited and honoured at getting the chance to step into his new role as Chief Executive Officer of Melbourne Storm.

Speaking to the media alongside Chairman Bart Campbell and outgoing CEO Mark Evans at the Club's announcement this afternoon, Donaghy expressed his thrill at the appointment.

"I'm very humbled and very honoured by the opportunity," Donaghy said.

"I'm really excited at the challenge.

"From my point of view there has never been a better time than to be involved in the game (rugby league).

"We're heading the right way both as a club and as an industry so that's really exciting."

Chairman Campbell explained Donaghy was a unanimous choice among the Storm board after he proved to be a standout candidate during the Club's search for a new CEO.

"We are delighted Dave accepted our offer to become chief executive," Campbell said.

"It was a thorough process, we were very pleased with the quality of candidates but in the end there were a number of things that swung it for us in regards to Dave.

"It's important to have some good high level rugby league knowledge in the business.

"He's worked in the business before, he understands the culture of the organisation.

"He's worked in AFL in Brisbane so he understands the challenges of being a challenger sport in a new market."
