Melbourne Storm Coach Craig Bellamy says competition for places in his starting 17 is crucial to promoting a strong playing environment.

With both the Club's feeder teams Easts Tigers and the Sunshine Coast Falcons recording back-to-back wins in the Intrust Super Cup, several players on the fringes continue to push for first-grade selection.

"There's some guys playing in the Queensland Cup who are playing really well so they are putting some pressure on some of our first-grade squad," Bellamy said on Wednesday prior to training.

Be at AAMI Park when Storm host the Roosters on Saturday 18 April, 7:30pm.

"That's part of being a good Club having those guys putting some pressure on.

"The guys who have been playing NRL have been playing pretty well as well.

"We've just named those few extra players in case those other guys don't come up.

"The guys we have named would be very deserving of a run at the moment because they're playing very well up in the Queensland Cup."
