Melbourne Storm has appointed Matt Adamson to a newly created coaching and recruitment role based on the Sunshine Coast.

Adamson will relinquish his role as Storm Under-20’s coach to take up the position of Queensland Coaching Director.

The role will oversee Storm’s involvement with new feeder team Sunshine Coast Falcons in addition to providing support to the Falcons’ Queensland Cup coach Glen Dreger and his coaching staff.

Adamson, a former New South Wales and Australian representative in his playing days, will also co-ordinate the Club’s recruitment in Queensland.

Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said: “The new role of Queensland Coaching Director will assist in strengthening our relationship with the Falcons and the local Sunshine Coast rugby league community.

“Matt has a great passion working with young talent and assisting in their development and we believe, having been with the Club for 12 months, he is the perfect person to take up this position.”

Adamson said:  “It’s an honour to accept this role, I look forward to building relationships between Storm and the Falcons, but more importantly within the community.

“Rugby league has always been a community based sport, I’m passionate about the Sunshine Coast area and assisting in the continued growth of the joint venture.”

Falcons Chairman, Ashley Robinson, welcomed the appointment of Adamson.

“I believe the appointment of Matt demonstrates to the Sunshine Coast community how serious Melbourne Storm is about the partnership with the Falcons.

“The implementation of this new role, coupled with the support from the Sunshine Coast Council with our outstanding facilities continues to strengthen our Club’s position for the 2015 season.

“We look forward to the added professionalism Matt will bring with him and continuing to work closely with Melbourne Storm.”

Adamson will relocate with his family to the Sunshine Coast prior to the commencement of pre-season training.

The Falcons’ joined Brisbane Easts to become Storm’s second feeder team in July.

Storm will announce its Under-20’s coach for 2015 in the coming days.
