Melbourne Storm's U20 Thunderbolts have fallen to the Sydney Roosters 14-34 at AAMI Park on Sunday afternoon.
The young Roosters proved too strong for the Thunderbolts who couldn't close the deficit opened up by the visitors during the first half.
Jack Goodsell opened the scoring after a successful 40/20 attempt, allowing the visitors a repeat set 10 meters out from the try-line.
Josh Minhinnick responded for Matt Adamson's side shortly after, reducing the Roosters' lead before the Thunderbolts defence found themselves back under pressure.
Two unanswered tries to finish the half meant the young Storm side would have to overturn a 12 point deficit in the second half to taste victory.
Melbourne fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad helped his side start the second stanza brightly, scoring a try to reduce the Sydney lead to eight points.
However as they did in the opening half, the Roosters combined to great effect in attack opening up a strong advantage.
Jake Turpin crossed for a late consolation as the Thunderbolts eventually went down 34-14 at AAMI Park.
