Storm veteran Ryan Hoffman may have played the last game of his NRL career after suffering a hamstring injury in the 17-14 loss to Cronulla.

The 34-year-old Melbourne forward, who recently announced his retirement at season's end, was distraught after the match and needed to use crutches to walk.

"We're all concerned, he's in tears in the dressing room," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said when asked about Hoffman.

"He has been a wonderful player for our club, I'm not too sure he will play again, to be quite honest.

"They're thinking it's a really major injury. I know he will do everything he can to get back again this year and not have to retire on this note.

"They want to let it settle down tomorrow but Tuesday or Wednesday they will scan it and just see exactly what the problem is. I just hope he can get back before the end of the season."

Hoffman's injury compounded a glum afternoon for the premiers.

Bellamy questioned his team's desire after losing their second game in a row with finals looming.

"It looks like we lack a bit of hunger at the moment to me," he said.

"I thought we were starting the game waiting to make things happen, rather than making things happen.

"We need to decide where we're going for the rest of this year and put some actions to it. We're all really disappointed, but we'll see on Friday night [against the Eels] if we can change it."

Match Highlights: Storm v Sharks - Round 22, 2018

The pressure is back on Jahrome Hughes and Cameron Munster after Bellamy questioned his team's game management for the second week in a row, following last round's loss against the Rabbitohs.

"We may have to look at that, I'm not sure," he said about reviewing their pairing.

"I know in the first half, we turned the ball over on the fifth tackle 40 metres out from our line, by just running the ball up. Someone's not doing their job there. That's just not on."

Storm skipper Cameron Smith said ball control was again an issue.

"We came out at half-time with a 61% completion rate. It's a subject we've been talking about all year. And I just don't know why we can't get our heads around that.

"To win footy games, you need the ball. To play against sides who are going to be part of the finals, you need to hold on to the footy especially."
