Melbourne burst out of the blocks and held on for the win against a fast-finishing Sea Eagles side.
Despite not scoring in the second half, a six try opening fourty minute gave Craig Bellamy's men enough breathing space for their sixth win of the season.
Billy Slater was at his brilliant best with three try assists, a line break and 138 metres.
Jesse Bromwich also led the way with a team-high 154 metres in his return from injury.

Six tries in the opening half saw Storm dominate in attack and showed enough resolve down the stretch to walk away from Manly with the points for the second straight year.
If there were any questions about Storm after last week’s loss they would waste little time in answering them.

In fact Melbourne ran in six first half tries, all of them down the left side of Manly’s defence.
A Billy Slater cut out pass found Suliasi Vunivalu just 73 seconds into the game before Young Tonumaipea went himself down the short side on nine minutes.
Vunivalu then took to the air for his second and when Josh Addo-Carr joined the right-edge party it was 18 points in 18 minutes for Melbourne.
To Manly’s credit they would hit back with two tries of their own in the space of four minutes, bringing the margin back to one converted try.
However just when it seemed the home side was getting back into the game Storm would answer with their own two try, four minute burst.
This time it would be Slater and Felise Kaufusi who would combine, with the star fullback finding his second rower twice with almost identical set plays.
Melbourne were preparing to take that confidence into the half-time sheds but Manly produced a try in the dying moments of the half to bridge the gap.
They would edge close with half an hour to play when Jake Trbojevic sliced through the Storm line, cutting the deficit to 10 points.
The Sea Eagles should have scored another five minutes later but were only halted by some defensive desperation from Slater.
Melbourne were unable to get on the front foot though in the second half and the pressure would tell once again when Manly crossed again to make it a four point margin with 14 minutes to play.
