Melbourne Storm U20

The U20 Thunderbolts have scored a late come from behind 28-24 victory over the Brisbane Broncos at Maroochydore Rugby League Ground.

The game was played at a fast pace from the outset with the Broncos making some big hits early in the first half.

Melbourne were first to get on the score sheet however with a try on the back of a 40/20 kick on the very first set of the game, giving Eric Smith's side an early advantage.

The Broncos held an 18-10 lead at half-time thanks to tries from their halves pairin as Gerome Burns grabbed a double during the first 40 minutes.

Eric Smith’s half-time speech obviously spurred his Thunderbolts into action, as his men scored two tries within short succession straight after the break.

The Broncos reasserted themselves by regaining the lead with only 10 minutes left on the clock through a converted try and looked to be taking home the win.

There was one more twist in the game however with young full-back Jesse Arthars finishing off a long-range team try to clinch victory in what was a very tight affair.

The game was filled with plenty of attacking flair with the Thunderbolts scoring five tries and four conversions compared to the Broncos four converted tries.

The Thunderbolts will now travel to Leichhardt Oval to play the Tigers next Sunday.

Be there for our next home game at AAMI Park in Round 5, Saturday 1 April at 7:30pm.
