Queensland and Storm skipper Cameron Smith is set to break the all-time State of Origin appearance record next Wednesday at ANZ Stadium.

The Maroons last night announced their squad for the 2016 series opener on June 1.

As has been customary since 2003, Smith was named at hooker, leaving him poised to make his 37th appearance for Queensland.

That will see him surpass his predecessor Darren Lockyer for most games played in the State of Origin arena.

Cooper Cronk was also named in the Maroons Game 1 squad. See Kevin Walters’s full team here.

Be at AAMI Park when we take on the Panthers, Saturday 4 June, 7:30pm.

State of Origin Games played:

Cameron Smith 36
Darren Lockyer 36
Allan Langer 34
Johnathan Thurston 33
Mal Meninga 32
