Melbourne fullback Billy Slater says the Club is enjoying the immense support they are receiving in Queensland.

Speaking at Alex Surf Club where Slater, coach Craig Bellamy and a number of the squad’s first-grade players attended a sportsman’s lunch on Tuesday, the injured number one explained the group were appreciative of the warm reception.

“We get plenty of support up here in Queensland, the Sunshine Coast especially now that we’ve had an affiliation with the Falcons,” Slater said.

“We’ve got our Academy here on the Sunshine Coast, it’s a huge rugby league area and we’re just happy to be a part of it.”

Slater also discussed the newly formed Storm Academy, to be based at Sunshine Coast Stadium which was announced by the Club last week.

“It gives the local people of the Sunshine Coast, the kids coming through a pathway to the NRL.”

“They can see the stepping stones put in place by the Melbourne Storm.”
