Please see below a statement from James Ackerman’s parents, Sonya and Michael

While we are mourning and grieving the loss of our beautiful son James, we have found some comfort in knowing he has helped save a number of lives through organ and tissue donation.

While James has gone, his spirit remains and we are very proud that he is helping other people and their families.

We are pleased two people have already received lifesaving organ transplants as a result of James’ generous donation and in the near future up to 18 other people will benefit from James’ precious gift of tissue donation.

We would like to add our support of organ and tissue donation and encourage Australians to consider becoming donors.

Funeral details

The funeral for James Ackerman will be held at the Sunshine Coast Stadium at 11am on Wednesday 1 July, 2015.

The Sunshine Coast Falcons are one of Storm’s two feeder teams playing in Queensland’s Intrust Super Cup.

The Sunshine Coast Stadium is the home ground of the Falcons Rugby League Club and James’ funeral service will be held where he last played on the Sunshine Coast prior to the events at Bishop Park.

Members of the public are invited and welcome to attend the funeral. The Ackerman family ask that donations be made to the James Ackerman Family Trust Fund in lieu of flowers.

Further details of the funeral will be released early next week.

James’ parents Michael and Sonya Ackerman, brothers Andrew and Thomas, wife Saraa and children Olliver and Milly have been overwhelmed by heart warming support from the community and rugby league fraternity and wish to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for their love, support and prayers at this difficult time.
