Hallam Senior College has become the first Victorian based school to qualify for the annual GIO Trophy Country Final to be held on Wednesday 6 August at Apex Oval in Dubbo.

After some impressive displays in matches leading to the final, Hallam Senior College secured its place in Dubbo and will represent Victoria when they come up against McKillop Catholic College from Warnervale on NSW’s Central Coast.

Hallam defeated Victoria University Secondary College 32-10 in a great team display before heading to the New South Wales Country Cup semi-finals where the squad defeated Holy Spirit (Wollongong) 34-6, Red Bend College (Forbes) 12-0, and the The Riverina Anglican College (Wagga Wagga) 22-4.

More than 300 schools participated this year from NSW, ACT, Queensland and Victoria.

The Trophy is a knockout competition for schools with students aged 16-18 who maintain a 85% attendance record at school.

Melbourne Storm NRL listed players Mahe Fonua, Kenny Bromwich and Richie Kennar all spent time at Hallam Senior College.
