Storm Coach Craig Bellamy today spoke of his and the Club's admiration for legendary AFL coach Tom Hafey.

The legendary AFL coach was a much loved part of the Storm family, religiously attending matches with his grandsons and addressing the players on a number of occasions leading into big matches.

"We'd like to send our condolences to Maureen and all the family, he's a very special man," Bellamy said.

"He was a wonderful supporter of our club, he never looked for an invitation to come to our games, he was always sitting in the stands and watching.

"We couldn't believe an all time great like Tommy would take too much interest in a rugby league team in Melbourne.

"He loved the sport and he grew to get close to our club and he was really important to our club.

Hafey often visited the Melbourne Storm playing group, delivering an inspirational message with his trademark energy and passion.

"He often spoke to the players as a group, any time we seemed to be in a difficult situation we called on Tom and just his passion and his disciplined approach to life was quite amazing," Bellamy said.

"The players loved him and he loved the players."
