Why is the club taking a game away?

After much consideration and extensive discussion with the City of Napier, it was determined that for the long-term viability of the Club, one of our home games needed to be moved in 2015, should the right deal be reached.  The agreement reached between Storm and the City of Napier is a one-year deal and presents good opportunities for both parties commercially. Storm’s business mission is: To ensure that Melbourne Storm remains in the city of Melbourne in perpetuity through creating a viable business that in the long run is owned by the fans and members. Such a mission of course has its challenges for a loss-making Club so, with that in mind, we’ve made this decision in the best long-term interests of Storm.

Will a game be taken away every season?

At this stage the agreement with the City of Napier is a one-year deal only. It will be reviewed at some stage during the 2015 season in order for the Club to complete an appropriate assessment. In the short-term, we are hosting a number of blockbusters in Melbourne this season – the ANZAC Day clash against Manly, Easter Monday against New Zealand Warriors, Brisbane, South Sydney and the Roosters. State of Origin II is also being held in Melbourne this year.

Is it a risk to give away home ground advantage?

While we will miss the AAMI Park experience, we will seek to replicate it as best we can in Napier. We have an excellent record in New Zealand and, with three current Kiwi internationals in the squad – Jesse Bromwich, Tohu Harris and Kevin Proctor, we’d like to think we’ll be able to generate some further support there. The football department has been consulted throughout this process and they are understanding and supportive of the reasons behind the switch.

Why did we choose the Dragons game?

After consultation with NRL and Broadcasters it was decided the Dragons game was the most suitable due to timeslot / forecast crowd etc.

What else should members know?

The Club appreciates its dedicated and committed members and acknowledges the key role they play at Storm. We encourage our members to understand the reasons behind this switch and familiarise themselves with the Club’s mission which is: To ensure that Melbourne Storm remains in the city of Melbourne in perpetuity through creating a viable business that in the long run is owned by the fans and members. We will be holding a member forum on Thursday March 5 to ensure members’ concerns are heard first-hand.

Members on a monthly payment plan

By applying for a refund of your membership, your payment plan will be adjusted so that your remaining instalments are equal to the new value of your membership.

Example: A Member currently pays their Thunder Squad membership on monthly instalments to the value of $23 per month.  The new adjusted total once the Napier game is factored in, as well as payments made to date, is $19.80 per month for 6 more payments.

This is explained in detail below:

Total membership cost for 12 games = $230

Current monthly instalment amount = $23.00 (=$230/10)

Amount paid to date as at 10 February = $92.00 (=4*$23)

Value of 1/12 of the membership (Napier game)  = $19.17 (=$230/12)

New membership total= $210.83 (=$230-$19.17)

New outstanding amount = $118.83 (=$210.83-$92)

New monthly instalment amount = $19.80 (= $118.83/6)

Members on an annual payment plan who have paid their membership in full using a credit card

Example: A Member currently pays their Thunder Squad membership in one lump sum of $230 will be refunded $19.17.

This is explained in detail below:

Total membership = $230

New membership total = $210.83

Refund amount = $19.17 (=230-19.17)
