Partner Update June 2020

Dear valued partner,

I hope you’re enjoying having live NRL games back on your TV screens as much as we are.

It wasn’t a great start for Storm in our first match back against the Canberra Raiders, however we’ve since bounced back with two convincing wins against the Rabbitohs (22-8) and the Knights on the road (26-12). A lot has happened since our last sponsorship newsletter went out, so I thought it would be a great chance to share an update and some of the club’s impressive broadcast and media numbers over the past few weeks.

The Australian Rugby League Commission has agreed to new broadcast deals with Channel Nine through to 2022 and Foxtel through to the 2027 season. The new deal extends Foxtel's for a further five years, with the previous rights agreement having covered the five-year period of 2018-2022. This is a great result for the club and the entire league.

Media coverage in the week of our return to training in Albury was incredible, with greater exposure that week than the 2018 NRL Grand Final, 12 times larger than the 2019 NRL Preliminary Final, and significantly greater than all Australian NRL and AFL teams. Upon returning to matches, we received the lion’s share of media coverage in Victoria after getting the jump on the AFL.

TV ratings for our first three fixtures were up > 20% than corresponding averages, with our Friday night game vs the Rabbitohs in round 4 attracting > 1 million viewers nationally.

Our member pledge program is number 1 in the NRL – with upwards of 40% of members pledging to support our club regardless of whether they attend a game in 2020.

Finally, our Club has also agreed to be part of the Victorian Sports Alliance, which is aimed at engaging at-risk youth with the ultimate goal of reducing crime in our state. Further information will be shared regarding this program as it becomes available.

I look forward to catching up again soon (and hopefully in person at AAMI Park… which appears to be edging closer sooner rather than later!)

Stay safe and well until then,

Nick Haslam.
