No team in the NRL era has won back-to-back premierships.

That is the motivation already driving Cameron Smith and we are still five months out from the start of the 2018 season.

Storm will head into next year's campaign as reigning premiers after a dominant 2017 saw them finish three games clear at the top of the table before going on to defeat the Cowboys 34-6 in the Grand Final.

The team showcased some scintillating football throughout the year to have several pundits asking if this was in fact the greatest side of all time.

Four players from this year's Premiership team have now moved on - Jordan McLean, Tohu Harris, Cooper Cronk and Slade Griffin.

However the drive to achieve something that so far every NRL Premier has been unable to do is already at the forefront of the Storm skipper’s mind.

“Looking quite far ahead, in the NRL arena, there is no team that’s gone back to back with premierships,” Smith told the Herald Sun.

“That’s on the radar. It is achievable. It’s extremely hard to do. I’ve been in that situation before.

“That would be pretty special to be part of a team that could win back-to-back premierships.”
