Four games may not seem like much but it was enough for Storm fans to realise that Jahrome Hughes has a bright future in Melbourne.

Arriving in the off-season having played just two games in four years at the Cowboys and Titans, Hughes was hungry for opportunity and when it arrived during the Origin period he was ready to take it with both hands.

He made his Storm debut in Round 16 against the Roosters at Adelaide Oval and scored three tries in his first three appearances whilst running for more than 150 metres in three out of his four games.

The 23-year-old also generated six line breaks and while that may be from a small sample size, his average of 1.5 per game is the highest of any player in the competition.

When he was not wearing the purple jersey Hughes worked hard to develop his game in reserve grade with feeder side Sunshine Coast, proving instrumental in helping them to a Grand Final berth.

Showcasing an ability to play at both five-eighth and fullback, the versatile playmaker also signed a new two-year deal to remain in Melbourne and will be one to watch closely in 2018 and beyond.
