Billy Slater now stands alone as the second highest try scorer in NRL history.
The superstar fullback crossed the line in the 59th minute on Friday night for the 181st time in his career.
That saw Slater surpass Manly great Steve Menzies to move into second on the NRL’s all-time try scorer’s list. The 34-year-old then secured his double for good measure in the game’s final stages to secure the 30-nil win.
Slater now sits behind only Ken Irvine who sits at number one with 212 tries.
It is an incredible achievement for Slater who had scored just two tries in his previous two seasons as injury had left him sidelined for an extended period of time.
“I just know with Billy how much last year hurt him,” Craig Bellamy said.
“He missed 18 months and missed the big game last year. It is why he plays, he wants to play in big games.
“To see him go out there tonight, to score a couple of tries and get the chance to go back to the big dance again, that is a great story.”
Slater has returned back to his brilliant best this season, crossing the line 10 times in 20 games.
