Storm snatch an AAMI Park thriller

Youngster Joe Stimson score the match-winning try with three minutes left to see Storm 16-13 victors over the Sydney Roosters.

Saturday night's win now sees Melbourne sit three games clear on top of the NRL ladder with three games left to play in the season.

Stimson's heroics gave the a bumber AAMI Park crowd of 17,221 a moment they wont soon forget.

The contest was well and truly fitting of a top of the table clash as both teams traded momentum throughout the 80 minutes.

Jesse Bromwich was dominant with a team-high 173 metres while the skipper Cameron Smith lead the way with 41 tackles and four goals.

The home side was forced to defend for much of the opening period but in their first foray up field Storm forced the Roosters into a penalty.

Cameron Smith gladly took the two points as Melbourne began to hold momentum. He would to the same 10 minutes later as the purple faithful saw their side edge out to a 4-nil after 23 minutes.

Suliasi Vunivalu then made it 18 tries for the season when he ran on to a perfectly timed Cooper Cronk grubber kick. Before he could ground the ball, the Fijian was tackled without it by Latrell Mitchell but the referee awarded a penalty try.

The Roosters managed to hit back with a try of their own to make it a 10-6 score line at the break.

Another Smith penalty in the 53rd minute made it a six-point lead but a try to Mitchell Aubusson on the hour mark made it an even ball game.

An arm wrestle of a contest followed before Luke Keary broke the deadlock with a field goal with seven mintues to play.

Storm refused to be denied though and it was a youngster who stepped up to be the hero.

Joe Stimson can to the rescue in the 77th minute when he streamrolled over the line to snatch the point for Melbourne and give them a six-point lead on top of the NRL ladder.
