Cameron Smith is the only captain Will Chambers has ever known.

Be it at Club, state or international level, Chambers has learned his craft under the guidance of arguably the game’s greatest ever player.

Rivalry continues! Melbourne v Manly, July 30. Book now!

That is why in the countdown to Smith’s 350th game on Sunday it would be the Storm centre who would take the opportunity to pay tribute to his skipper.

“There are not many things that he hasn’t achieved, he is a pretty special footballer,” Chambers said.

“He is durable and the one thing he is, is a competitor, he turns up every week and goes about doing his job week in and week out.

“The reason he has achieved so much in rugby league is that he does his job. He is so calm under pressure in some of the biggest moments of his career.”

Under a significant injury cloud at the start of the week, Smith is now a strong chance of lining up against rivals Manly this Sunday.

He was named in the team yesterday which triggering the increased hype towards his 350 milestone.

While the achievement is mind boggling, becoming just the third play in history to reach the mark, Smith would likely prefer to take his piece of history and move on.

“Knowing Cameron, he will just want the 350th to be out of the way, he does not want it to be all about Cameron Smith,” Chambers said.

“All he is worried about is just getting the two points for the Melbourne Storm, that is the kind of guy that he is.”
