Easts Tigers have moved to third on the Intrust Super Cup ladder with a narrow 24-20 win over Ipswich.
They scored five of the first six tries of the game before seeing their fullback Gerard McCallum forced from the field with a broken leg.
The Jets then scored two in quick succession to draw closer but Easts did just enough to hold on, with Young Tonumaipea stepping up with a number of big plays down the stretch.
Robbie Rochow enjoyed another promising hit out as he works his way back to full fitness while young prop Charlie Galo was again impressive.
“Charlie keeps getting better every week. He plays in the front row, gets good minutes, he really played a good physical type of game against Ipswich who have a big pack,” Easts coach Scott Sipple said.
“Robbie is finding his feet, he played a bit of edge. You can tell he is very smart, he knows what to do and where to be and he pops up at the right time. He will continue to get better with more game time under his belt.”
Easts take on Norths Devils in Mundubbera next week.
The Sunshine Coast Falcons had the bye and will travel to Rowden Park next Sunday to take on the Burleigh Bears.
