A young Storm side was galant but ultimately defeated by a more experienced Eels outfit at AAMI Park.

Parramatta raced out to an early lead which proved too difficult to reel in despite Melbourne playing the better football in the second half.

Jahrome Hughes was a shining light at fullback with a team high 193 metres, one line break and a try.

Rivalry continues! Melbourne v Manly, July 30. Book now!

It was a far from ideal start from the young Storm side as they surrendered the first three tries of the game to find themselves facing 16-point down after just 22 minutes.

Their cause was not helped when Suliasi Vunivalu was sent to the sin bin in the 11th minute and the score at 4-0.

As the half wore on though Melbourne worked themselves into the contest and they were rewarded just three minutes before the break.

A beautifully crafted team play saw Vunivalu put a grubber kick into the path of Jahrome Hughes as the youngster cooly collected and grounded for a much-needed try.

That effort filled Storm and their vocal fans with fire as the home side began to the second half with plenty of promise.

For the first 30 minutes after the restart Melbourne were the better team, controlling the football and looking the most likely to score.

Unfortunately they were unable to find a way through and in the 70th minute the Eels made them pay with a decisive try to push the margin back out to 16 points.
