After being challenged for much of the 80 minutes, Easts Tigers found a way to defeat the CQ Capras 34-26 at Browne Park.

Easts made a slow start before a double to Linc Port after 18 minutes had them back on track.

They maintained an eight-point lead for much of the game which they eventually held until full time.

Young Storm prop Charlie Galo was impressive in his first game back after seven weeks out with a knee injury.

“Charlie came off the bench and it was probably one of the best games he played for Easts,” coach Scott Sipple said.

“He was very strong up the middle, played in the front row and set up a good try and made no errors.

“For a big man he has great footwork and his ball-playing ability is fantastic for a young kid. He has a lot of skill, he has just got to learn how to use it and when to hold back on it.”

Easts Tigers 34 (Linc Port 2, Billy Walters 2, David Murphy, Steven Thorpe, Gerard McCallum; Adam Crear 3 goals) def CQ Capras 26 (Nathan Bassani, Vic Halfpenny, Krys Freeman, Tony Tumusa tries; Tony Tumusa 3 goals) at Browne Park.
