Melbourne Storm U20

For the second straight week the Thunderbolts have overcome a slow start to record a thrilling win, this time against the Sydney Roosters.

Last week they fell before 18-nil and this time around surrendered the first 16 points of the game.

They managed to turn it around though, heading into half-time all squad at 22-all.

The Thunderbolts then raced to a 12-point lead of their own midway through the second half.

The Roosters responded to again draw level before Braydon Trindall stepped up with a game winning field goal for the Under-20s.

“It was definitely a gritty performance,” Thunderbolts coach Eric Smith said.

“It was a good show of character from our guys that even though it wasn’t pretty, they kept up their effort, did not stop trying and just found a way to win.

“Sometimes when you are having those days when things aren’t going the way you want them to, you just have to find a way whether it is pretty or not pretty.

“At the end of the day it was two point that we went down there to get and we did that.”

The Thunderbolts currently sit 11th on the NYC leader, one win outside the top eight.
