‘I couldn’t be prouder’

As the Storm kids were running around AAMI Park on Saturday night Craig Bellamy was watching on, proud as punch.

Boasting an average age of 23 with an average of 45 games played, Melbourne pulled off a thrilling 23-22 win over the Cowboys to give their fans the best possible glimpse of the future.

It left their mentor in the box certainly satisfied after the game.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the effort tonight,” Bellamy said.

“We had a really good week at training with all the new guys and the guys who are normally in the team knuckled down and worked really hard.”

“I could not fault their effort all.”

Storm were forced to make seven changes from the team the beat the Sharks the previous week.

To still put in a performance like that shows the depth of the playing group this season.

“Those younger guys coming in… obviously we have got a lot of confidence now that at some stage if we get a couple of injuries we’ve got guys who can come in and do a job for us,” Bellamy said.

“It is a long, hard season, especially for those guys who are playing Origin so at some stage we might be able to give them a rest.

“When you’ve got confidence in guys coming in and out of the team that can do a really good job, we can mix and match a bit.”
