Just when you think he has achieved it all, Cameron Smith is once again poised to accomplish something no other player before.

When the Storm skipper takes to the field next Wednesday night for Game I of the 2017 series, he will become the first player in history to make 40 appearances in State of Origin.

Smith will enter is own chapter into the history of rugby league’s greatest rivalry.

For a man who is the owner of so many records, not even he thought he would have ticked this one off.

“It is a nice achievement, I never would have dreamt to have played 40 games,” Smith said.

“I won’t deny I am very proud of what I have been able to achieve at this level.

“I know my wife, my three children, my parents and brother and sister are very proud of what I have been able to do to.

“For myself it has always been about what is needed for the team, it is not about milestones or anything like that. Game I is vitally important for this series, for our side and for this state.”
