After you have spent 12 months out of the game you tend to appreciate living in the now.

That is the philosophy Billy Slater is taking after making his return to the Storm side.

Slater has played 132 minutes in his first two games and as every one of those minutes has ticked by, the 33-year-old has looked more at home.

It is that continual strive to return to his best that makes thinking about the future something he puts at the back of his mind.

“I’d be lying if (I said) you don’t think about it every now and again… but, (after last two seasons) I think about things weekly now and just really enjoy what I’ve got,” Slater told the Herald Sun.

“If I start thinking about next year it will all be done before I know it.”
