After featuring in two trial matches during pre-season, Storm recruit Dale Finucane says he is excited to start in his Club debut on Monday night.

Discussing Melbourne's 2015 season opener against the Dragons with the media on Friday, the ex-Bulldog forward explained the challenge for him now was to perform and retain a starting position among heavy competition within Storm's forward pack.

"Yeah I was excited about that (starting position)," Finucane said.

"Obviously that was one of my big ambitions when I came to the Club, wanting to play larger minutes than what I had been previously and be a starting player.

"This weekend gives me that opportunity to try and cement (the position) it for the year.

"We've got a lot of guys in my role in the Club. That makes it good for me in terms of the competition every week and wanting to hold your spot."
