Craig Bellamy has said skipper Cameron Smith will need to train in full with the Storm squad this week if he is a chance to play on Monday night in Round 1.

Speaking to the media prior to training on Tuesday morning, Bellamy explained his position surrounding Smith's fitness.

"Cameron will need to do all the sessions and all of the sessions this week," Bellamy said.

"He got through a fair bit of it last week actually to be fair to him. He looked quite good, his fitness level was quite good as well.

"We'll see how he goes through today and we'll announce a team this afternoon."

Melbourne face St.George Illawarra on Monday night in Kogarah and Bellamy has no doubt Smith will want to be there when his side kicks-off it's 2015 campaign. The coach however is realistic about the captain's preparation.

"At the end of the day he'll want to play, there's no doubt about that," Bellamy said.

"At this stage his preparation has been very limited.

"He probably did three quarters of what the other players did last week and came through okay. He's still got a little bit of stiffness and pain there.

"Basically it will be how he gets through the sessions this week, especially today."
