New Storm recruit Tom Learoyd-Lahrs says work over pre-season is setting the base for his 2015 campaign with Melbourne.

As a result of injury, the 29-year old front-rower only played eight first-grade games over the past two seasons for Canberra. Speaking with Melbourne radio station SEN 1116 on Tuesday morning, Learoyd-Lahrs explained he was in a good position leading into the new year.

"I've just been taking small steps and making sure I'm getting through my training and trying to build that resilience in my body," Learoyd-Lahrs said.

"I think I'm getting there, I feel really good at the moment.

"With one week to run until we break up for Christmas I feel like I'm a long way ahead of where I have been."
